Starting an indoor garden can be a rewarding and enjoyable experience, especially for beginners.
Here's a comprehensive guide as well as a few links to My Favs to help you get started.
1. Assess Your Space:
This is one of the most important steps in my opinion. Determine how much space you have available for your indoor garden. Consider factors like natural light, temperature, and ventilation. You can find many different stands to beautifully display your garden and plants in your space. I love this one here. (affiliate link click to see my fav)

2. Choose Suitable Plants:
You can start with beginner-friendly plants like herbs. Basil, rosemary, and mint are some examples of herbs that can be grown indoors as well as be very useful in the kitchen.

You can also consider succulents, or low-maintenance houseplants like pothos and spiders plant. Think about the lighting conditions in your space and choose plants that thrive in low, medium, or bright light, depending on your gardening location.
Place your indoor garden near a window with ample natural light. South or west-facing windows usually provide the brightest light. If natural light is limited, consider using grow lights to supplement or replace natural sunlight. My favorite is the 5 heads red, blue, white (affiliate link click here My Fav) https://amzn.to/43J5eWo

3. Gather Supplies: Now that we know where the garden will be and the kind of plants we are planting it is time to get our supplies. To start you need a few things. I have taken the guess work out and here is a link with a starter kit. (affiliate link click here My Fav) https://amzn.to/4cHRVcP
Containers & Potting Mix: Select pots or containers with drainage holes to prevent overwatering.(affiliate link click here cutie from My Favs) https://amzn.to/4cUIaZ9. : Choose a well-draining potting mix suitable for indoor plants or gardening. There are so many to choose from just take your time to look up the soil when starting with that plant.
4. Watering Schedule: Develop a watering schedule based on the needs of your plants and the moisture level of the soil. Overwatering is a common mistake, so allow the top inch of soil to dry out before watering again. Use room temperature water to avoid shocking the roots of your plants. Use a watering can with a narrow spout for precise watering. Some of us are good at remembering to water and some of us are not. Here I have self-watering bulbs(affiliate link click here My Fav) https://amzn.to/3J1gsftas and a nice modern watering can(affiliate link click here My Fav) https://amzn.to/3VFU0zRto.
5. Maintain Humidity: Indoor environments can be dry, especially during the winter months. Increase humidity levels by misting your plants regularly or using a humidifier. This one still has the vibe that I love so much.(affiliate link click here My Fav) https://amzn.to/3vCAyJI
6. Monitor Temperature: Most indoor plants prefer temperatures between 65-75°F (18-24°C) during the day and slightly cooler at night.
7. Fertilize Regularly: Feed your plants with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce fertilization during the winter months when plant growth slows down. (affiliate link click here My Fav) https://amzn.to/3THytnY
8. Pruning and Maintenance: Pruning shears used for trimming and maintaining your plants. Trim off any dead or yellowing leaves to promote healthy growth and prevent disease. Repot your plants as needed to provide ample space for root growth.
9. Pest Control: Keep an eye out for common indoor plant pests such as aphids, spider mites, and fungus gnats. If you notice any signs of pest infestation, treat them promptly with organic or chemical insecticides. I like to use the organic pest control (affiliate link click here My Fav) https://amzn.to/43KNMRx
Enjoy the Process: Gardening is a journey, so take the time to observe and appreciate the growth and development of your indoor garden. Experiment with different plant varieties and arrangements to find what works best for you and your space. If you are following these beginner-friendly steps, you'll be well on your way to creating a thriving indoor garden that brings beauty and joy to your home.
Happy gardening!
